What are approved COVID vaccine in India?

Many vaccines in India are undergoing phase 3 trial for final vaccine approval. For emergency use drugs regulator of India on Sunday, 3rd January 2021 gave first approval for two vaccines (COVISHIELD & COVAXIN) according to news agency Reuters reported.

The vaccine received approval for Phase 1 & 2 COVID vaccine trials across India from July, 2020.

After successful completion of the interim analysis from the Phase 1 & 2 , Bharat Biotech received DCGI approval for Phase 3 clinical trials in 26,000 participants in over 25 centers across India.

The Serum Institute of India submitted data of phase 1 clinical trial conducted over 23,745 overseas participants showing result of 70.42% efficacy.

In phase 2 and 3 conducted in India, 1,600 participants took part and the results were comparable to that of the first phase of trial.

The ministry of health and family welfare announced free vaccines to be provided in initial phase to the most prioritized beneficiaries, including 1 crore healthcare and 2 crore frontline workers.

Children below 10 years and people above 45 years

Children below 10 years of age, people above 45 years of age and those between 10 to 45 years having comorbidities — would be vaccinated on priority as they are at higher risk.

Phase 3 vaccination for everyone in India above 18 years began from 1st May 2021.

The Covid-19 vaccination dose is available only to those who have pre-registered in the Co-WIN website or app.

On Co-WIN website or app you can register yourself. This will help you schedule your COVID vaccination based on prioritization groups and their age and comorbidities.

How to get register for COVID-19 vaccine?

1. Download the Co-WIN app on your smartphone

2. The required documents for self-registration include twelve photo-identity documents, including election ID, Aadhaar card, driving license, passport and pension document.

3. Register yourself with necessary personal details.

4. You will receive a date and time slot for COVID vaccination.

5. 100 volunteers will be planned each day for administering the vaccine.

Schools and community halls will be outreach session sites while there will be special mobile teams for remote areas or migratory population and international border areas.
